Buy Food with Plastic

Year: 2025

Location: Las Salinas de Nagualapa, Nicaragua

This photo series was taken in Las Salinas de Nagualapa, a small rural town near Popoyo, on the southwest coast of Nicaragua. It documents a community-led event organized by the international initiative Buy Food With Plastic - a project active in Nicaragua, Ghana, and India.

The concept is beautifully simple: families collect plastic waste and bring it to a local gathering, where they can exchange it for a freshly cooked meal. In a region where plastic pollution is a growing environmental challenge, this initiative transforms waste into something of value.

This photo series captures the energy of the gathering, the quiet power of grassroots action, and the human side of environmental care. It’s a story about connection, and the belief that meaningful change can begin with something as small as a plastic bottle.
