Rehabilitation Hedgehogs
Year: 2024
Location: Wildopvang Haaglanden, Delft, the Netherlands
This photo series was taken at Wildopvang Haaglanden, a wildlife rehabilitation center in The Hague, where more and more hedgehogs arrive each year - often injured, starving, or too weak to survive on their own.
As cities expand and insect populations shrink, it’s becoming harder for hedgehogs to find food or safe places to hibernate. They’re forced to move more, which puts them at greater risk of traffic and other urban hazards.
The series documents not only the hedgehogs themselves, but also the daily work of the volunteers who care for them - from medical checks and feeding to preparing them for release.
